Hybrid Dentures Randolph MA

If you need to replace some missing teeth, you should consider hybrid dentures. They offer many of the same benefits as dental implants, while also offering some of the affordability of traditional dentures. Although traditional dentures make a fine choice for many patients, they have some notable drawbacks, including:

  • Can create mouth sores and irritation
  • Require messy dental adhesives
  • Possibility of shifting within your mouth
  • Eating and talking may be difficult
  • Must be removed at night for cleaning and soaking

What are hybrid dentures?

Hybrid dentures, sometimes known as fixed implant dentures, are a fairly recent tooth replacement innovation for those requiring a full mouth restoration. They are a complete set of permanent teeth for replacing an entire arch of teeth using only four sets of dental implants.

Dental Implants Benefits

  • No adjustment period needed
  • Durable and long-lasting
  • Prevent shifting of natural teeth
  • Prevents jawbone loss
  • Look and feel very natural

Traditional dentures are custom-fitted onto the gums and retained using a dental adhesive. They must be removed for regular cleaning, and refitted every few years.

Hybrid dentures are fixed appliances that resemble natural teeth in function, appearance and comfort. You will have no worries about possible embarrassment, such as when dentures slip or even fall out. Your hybrid dentures will be firmly anchored by implants placed within the jawbone itself.

Placing Hybrid Dentures

To receive hybrid dentures, your dentist will place as many as six dental implants into your jawbone. In a few months, your jawbone will have naturally fused with your new implants. Once this process, known as osseointegration, is complete, you will return to have your dentures attached to the dental implants.

Hybrid Dentures: Good Candidates

Your dentist will need to examine you to determine if you would make a good candidate for hybrid dentures. One important requirement is that you have sufficient bone mass to support the needed dental implants. If you have had missing teeth for a long time, your jawbone will likely have undergone a process called resorption, or bone loss, where the bone literally begins melting away at the site of the missing teeth.

Fortunately, many patients who have experienced bone resorption can still receive hybrid dentures if they undergo a bone graft procedure, although this will add some time and expense to the entire process.

Your dentist would implant some donor bone material into the sites of the proposed implants that will be supporting your hybrid dentures. After this donor bone has been incorporated into your natural jawbone, you can return for the placement of your implants.
